Question of the Day: Can you name any movies which are based off books that you think are good?

Anonymous

Haha, of course…”How to Train Your Dragon” XD

While it’s not a carbon copy of the books, if you’ve gotta take something and make it your own then this movie did it right. Even the author supported the changes, so that’s a plus.

“Chronicles of Narnia” was also good movies based off the book series. It was great to see all the vivid worlds described in the books coming to life in the movies.

“To Kill a Mockingbird” is one of my favorite books, and I feel the movie was just the perfect direct movie adaptation to it, no complaints there.

And…hmmm….”Secret of NIHM”, if I remember correctly, was based off of a book and was a very powerful and wonderfully animated movie.

I feel like I’m forgetting a million movies…I know I’m missing some but my brain is pudding right now….

But no, seriously, Brook Chalmers—the voice of Sven on RoB and does, like, a million other things on Riders of Berk—has a tumblr. He’s super cool and he works on the freaking show!

Can you ask for much else?

No…no you can’t

Today’s Dragons Character Upload

therealsven:

Hey Everyone, it’s 3 o’ clock and that means time for another Character picture.  I thought it was only fitting to post Astrid after Hiccup as I am sure most of you would agree.  I haven’t been able to corner America Ferrera to sign this yet so the bottom is blank.  Hope you enjoy this one, it’s another amazing drawing by the equally amazing Peter Paul Bautista.  Hope to see everyone tomorrow with another cool picture!image

Sasstrid!

But this must be signed! Next time you see her don’t let her leave the recording room without signing this XD

Hey blackrose name your top 10 favorite animated movies and why you like them.

Hmmm, my top 3 are extremely easy to say, but everything after that…it’s just off the top of my head.

1) How to Train Your Dragon

It finally got bumped up to #1. I’ve just become completely immersed in the world of HTTYD, and any story that can draw me in and keep me in throughout a movie, short films, and a tv show is worth it’s salt. It has it’s flaws but I think it teaches life’s most important lesson: Tolerance. We could all stand to learn that every once in a while.

2) The Lion King

The reigning champ as my #1 favorite movie since I was a baby. It’s just so heavily engraved in my childhood as just a stunning movie with great animation, great music, and any movie than can make me take talking animals more seriously than humans is already overdoing it’s job XD

3) Finding Nemo

My favorite Pixar movie. It’s another one that just drags me into the world. Every time I watch that movie I just feel like I took a dive underwater. The plot is soooooo unique in a paranoid father searching for his lost son with a memory challenged stranger and somehow it’s the perfect pair to get the job done.

4) Castle in the Sky

It’s hard to pick a Ghibli film to put on here cause they’re all so good, but it’s pretty obvious why this is one here. I LOVE this movie. I’ve got an obsession with floating sky world and cool aeronautics so this movie just fits all my tastes. The characters are great, the romance is good but not too in my face. I love it all!

5) The Little Mermaid

Another Disney movie that’s just too close to my childhood not to put on here. As far as Disney Princesses go, this is one of my favorites despite some complaints it’s a cute story with iconic music!

6) Wall-E

This movie is, again, so unique. Neither of the main characters speak yet both have sooo much voice. That “speaks” volumes. And again, I’m a sucker for a film with a real lesson.

7) The Secret World of Arrietty

I didn’t expect to love this movie as much as I did but, man, this movie was brilliant. It’s a calm movie, not much action, but the characters really make it breath life into the beautiful animation and wonderfully developed plot line.

8) Aladdin

It’s funny, it’s catchy, it’s iconic, it’s my childhood. It’s just a good way to unwind and get some really good laughs in with a touching story to tie a pretty bow around it.

9) The Land Before Time

This would be more the first movie XD But the entire franchise (well, up to movie 7) was so my childhood. But, the first movie was Don Bluth at his finest. It’s gripping tale that shows a innocent children’s journey but not cutting corners. They go through tough times, tough emotions, and, yes, the REALLY face life or death situations. It’s not toned down because it’s children, it’s real (well, as real as talking dinosaurs can get XD)

10) Steamboy

Interesting choice since this movie is kinda like “what movie is that?”. I love this anime movie. The guy who made “Akira” made this and it shows. I’ve got a soft spot for Steampunk and aeronautics, as I said, so this anime movie just made me…tingly. It’s got that classic blend of actions, adventure, innovation, and romance that’s not too in your face but just enough to ease that interest.

So…that’s my top 10 for now. Like I said, choices 4-10 are kinda just off the top of my head and might change once I give it some real thought (I probably forgot a lot of movies…) but my top 3 are definitely correct :)

Thanks for asking.

Your fanfiction Fire War Renaissance is amazing! Seriously, you are the best author ever! I also really love all your HTTYD stories (and everything else too)! What makes you such a good writer?

Anonymous

Aw, thank you! That’s really nice of you to say :)

image

And, um, I don’t really know if I can answer that for myself. I just like to balance being descriptive yet not overly descriptive. And generally any story where I can dig into the character’s brains and just explain their thoughts is always my favorite. Seeing a story from just one character’s point of view gets boring for me cause minds are fun to explore :)

So…that’s just what I enjoy about my writing, but that’s just me.

I’m glad you like FWR, after all this time I still get praise about that story, so that’s cool. I planned a sequel to it but it seems every time I sit down to work on it something comes up that I’ve gotta deal with -__- so…sorry I keep saying “I’m working on it” but that’s just the best I’ve got. I tend to like the writing style in my httyd stories better just cause they’re more recent, though.

But, by the length of this response you can tell I’m a writer….I’m horribly long winded XD
